Don’t Wake Daddy is the perfect board game for toddlers!

This is a fun game with little kids. In fact, this is one of the best children’s board games for toddlers around, in my opinion. It’s a great way to teach your little ones rules, competition and how to win and lose with grace.

This is a fun and simple game for young kids, but anyone under 3 should play with an adult partner, just so they can have fun and not feel overwhelmed.

This game is great, but it can be easy to forget how to play. To help you out, here are the daddy board game rules.

To Set Up

Place Daddy’s bed onto the middle of the board with his night cap placed on his head. Press his body down so that his body is completely vertical

Once the board is set up, have everyone select a different color mover to start in the first space at the start of the board. The mover is everyone’s assigned playing piece.

Next, you shuffle the remaining 16 player cards and pass them out. Every player should begin the game with 4 picture cards each (this number of cards is important!).

In my house, the first player that goes is the youngest player. Then you work your way around the game board to see the number of times that you can hit the button before you wake up daddy.

When you Spin the Spinner:

When a player has a turn, they will know where to go based on where the spinner tells them to go.

You will either land on one of two things:

  • 1) A color. If this happens, you move your player to the next section of the trail of that color.
  • 2) The Purple Star. Move your character to the spot right above the character in the first place (in front of the leader).

*Note: if the players are all at the start of the track, move your player to the first colored spot.

What to look for when you land:

  • 1) If you land on a plain colored space without any numbers or pictures, then you are safe. Whew!
  • 2) If you land on a space with a picture and a number, you are in trouble! This is where your cards come into play. If you have a matching card to the space that you landed, then you are safe. If you do not have a matching card, then the player will need to hit the alarm clock button the number of times indicated on the space.

This is where the fun comes in! Hitting the alarm clock is one of the most exciting elements of this game.

What happens when you hit Daddy’s alarm clock

This is the fun part of this electronic board game. No one knows when Daddy will pop up!

  • 1) Daddy doesn’t wake up and you are safe.
  • 2) Daddy sits up in his bed and you need to head back to your own bed at the beginning of the game. During your next turn, you may or may not hit that purple star so you can still get to the end of the track first!

*Note- if he is woken up, make sure to place Daddy back into his sleeping position before the next player spins the spinner card.

How does a player win?

In order to win this game, a player must get through all of the track spaces and be the first to land on the rainbow refrigerator.
