Benefits of DIY Marker Storage for Toddlers

There are so many benefits to having a specific area for your kids to keep their markers. Not only does it help keep your home organized, but it can help your child with their development as well. Keep reading to learn more…

  • Teaching your children to organize their art supplies when they are young will help them care for their supplies as they age. Think of it this way, if they can properly store their crayola markers, how much better will they store copic markers?
  • A marker organizer can help give so much room to a creative space like your kids desk or the kitchen table
  • One marker storage idea is to get some plastic grids that can hold markers, but that can be fairly expensive
  • Less mess! When your toddler is creating art, there are so many small pieces that can.
  • These ideas can hold so many craft supplies! Whether you want to store your toddlers entire Crayola collection or use to keep your favorite gel pen and copic sketch marker, these DIY marker storage will keep craft supplies from getting lost at the bottom of the box.

Easy Marker Storage Crafts

Looking for DIY marker solutions? Here are a few of my favorite crafts to contain those messy markers that can end up everywhere.

DIY Painted Boxes

It’s time to head to Home Depot and grab some wood, glue, and paint to build a useful box to create proper storage. The best part is a trip there is just as exciting for most young children as the project itself. It’s like buy 1 get 1 free, but for activities.

Note: if going to home depot is too much for you, just use some cardboard boxes covered in scrapbook paper!

DIY Pencil Case with Duct Tape and a Ziploc Bag

This craft is a great way to store your kids’ markers. While it might be a little advanced for toddlers, it is an adorable portable marker case that will keep their markers in place for when its time to create.

Pom Pom Pen Pot

This is a great option for an easy project with an adorable product at the end. Choose between rainbow colored pom poms or let your little one pick out their favorite colors.

Upcycled Tin Can Craft

Store markers in this colorful tin can help your toddlers’ creative juices flow.

Corralling the Pencils’

Take a small box and cover it with fabric! This simple and cute project will help your toddler keep their markers in the right place for any crafts they decide to try.

DIY Slide Pen Pouch

This adorable pen pouch is a great way to store markers for when you are on the go. I love to keep this one in my car for long drives to the store with a clipboard and some paper.

How to make a Marker Roll-Up

A marker roll up is a classic craft that will keep your markers from rolling all over the place and make cleaning up a breeze.

Recycled Pencil Holder

This easy DIY marker storage makes having a designated spot for your markers a breeze.

Make your own Marker Case

Who knew that you could make your own marker case? This craft will help you with storage, save money, and have an afternoon craft ready to go!

Quick Solutions for DIY Marker Storage

When it comes to creating a DIY Marker storage, the good news is that it doesn’t need to be too creative. Sometimes with busy toddlers, you don’t have the mental bandwidth to create a beautiful way to store art supplies.

Guess what? That’s totally okay.

If you are short on energy to make your own marker storage for now, here are a few alternatives that you can use to create a system for storing markers without the crafting side.

1) Coffee Cup

My mother in law gifted me a gorgeous coffee cup from El Salvador a few years ago, but I can never use it to drink out of because the handle gets too hot. I wasn’t sure what to do with it, until I realized that it can sit on display and hold my kids’ markers.

Now, I love it!

2) Pencil Box

3) 1 Gallon Ziploc Bag

4) Tape lids together (or try using a hot glue gun)

An easy project is taping the marker lids together. That way, they can use the individual markers for their project and the chances of them losing the lids are much lower.

Bonus tip- attach the lids to a wooden board so your toddler can easily find it.

Keep the marker trays that they came in and use those.

  • Photo album bin
  • Attach cardboard tubes vertically to a wooden board
  • clear bin known as the marker bin

Best Markers for Toddlers

For toddlers, it is important to introduce them to a range of art mediums and see which ones they are drawn to. For some, that can mean building with playdoh and for others it can be painting with mud.

Using markers is an essential part to develop those tiny muscles for when they begin to write in a few years.

For me and my kids, that means finding the best markers for the job, which means using the large Crayola markers. I love these markers for so many reasons, but mainly because they are washable, easy to handle, and make bright, vibrant colors.

Out of all marker brands, the classic Crayola makes the prettiest colors for your fridge artwork and for when you are learning the letter K through Crafts.
