How to make the best Charcuterie Board for Picky Eaters

Whether they only eat orange cheese sticks, salami, or potatoes, a charcuterie board is an excellent way to help feed picky eaters.

Making a charcuterie board for picky eaters may seem like a daunting task- like any other time you need to feed a kid with very specific food requirements.

Benefits to a charcuterie board for picky eaters

It can feel overwhelming when deciding to present a new way to eat food to a picky eater, but there are so many benefits to a charcuterie board that it is definitely worth it.

Gives picky eaters a feeling of power

For some kids, the reason they choose to only eat specific foods is because they want to feel some sort of control. A kid-friendly charcuterie board gives them that control because they can choose what they eat from the many varieties that a snack plate can provide.

It lets them graze

Setting out a charcuterie board is the perfect way for kids to graze and choose what type of food that they want and when. It eliminates a lot of the pressure that a meal time can provide.

It truly is amazing how much a cheese board with fresh fruits and vegetables help fill those picky tummies.

Ideal for the reluctant entertainer

For those special occasions you are having a playdate or a holiday party, a kids charcuterie board is the perfect way to serve kids in a super easy way. Just set it out and as kids get hungry from all of their playing, casually remind them that there is a delicious snack plate just for them on the counter.

Start a Food Conversation

A charcuterie board is a simple idea that can turn into big food conversations for you and your picky eater. Take them to the local grocery store and involve them a little bit with making the food boards.

During the holidays, my favorite thing is to involve my kids with designing a holiday charcuterie board to make the perfect appetizers. When they are able to talk with you before the next party, they will feel more comfortable with the food being served.

Customize to your kids preferences

When it comes to charcuterie boards, it is so easy to pick and choose foods that your kids will actually eat. Peanut butter with celery and pretzels? Seasonal fruit with their favorite snacks? They will defenitly eat from these beautiful boards!

There are plenty of foods that you can add to make your charcuterie board a hit with your kids. Ready to make your own? Keep reading…

Still nervous about introducing new foods on a charcuterie board? There are ways to take the scary foods and turn them into fun foods that they will love.

Ways to help make the charcuterie board fun

Once you know what food can go on the snack board, it’s time to add in a few extra touches to help make the meal fun for all kids. Here are a few of my favorite tricks to help picky eaters eat from a charcuterie board…

Make Fun Shapes

One fun way to encourage kids to eat that can be used with a charcuterie board is to make shapes with the food. For adults, you see salami turned into roses, so why not shape your pretzels into a pile of logs?

Use cookie cutters

Thanks to Amazon, you can get cutters for food in just about any shape and size. When the food becomes fun when it is cut in different shapes, then it can distract your picky eater from their typical ‘yuck’ reaction.

Whether your kid is obsessed with dinosaurs or cats, there are cutters to match your childs’ passions and help them eat new foods.

Add a variety of foods

Providing the opportunity to try new foods through food exposure is one of the most important factors when helping children deal with being a picky eater.

A charcuterie board is the perfect tool to help you provide a variety of foods in a fun, non-scary way.

Don’t let food touch

One of the most valuable rules with preschoolers when it comes to feeding them is to do everything in your power to prevent the food from touching. In toddler logic, when the yummy carrots touch the yucky cheese cubes, now the carrots have become yucky.

When you are setting up a child’s charcuterie board, the trick is to place the food in individual groups that are separated in some way. Try using small bowls or a few smaller boards filled with different types of food items for your young child. .

Fun Utensils

Something about being able to pick up food with fun, unique utensils like this tiny, adorable set of toothpicks helps kids forget any grossed out factors that they might have previously had.

Another bonus is that the toothpicks will help keep any germs away from getting on the food. With no fingers touching anything, sharing something like the food on a snack plate is much healthier.

In Summary to kids Charcuterie Boards

Serving charcuterie boards for picky eaters is a smart choice. Whether you are hosting one at your Tuesday morning mom meet up or you are struggling with your own child’s decision to limit their diet.
